Millions of minors in the country, including an excellently encouraging number of JHS and SHS Ateneans, have already completed their twin COVID-19 doses. Likewise, pediatric inoculation, with the youngest age group of 5-11 years, using the reformulated lower-dosed Pfizer jab, is already up and running. This initiative of our national and local governments is, among others, done “to give them protection for them to be ready to go back to school anytime soon when it is allowed.”
In support of the appeal to all schools of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, we are highly encouraging all Ateneans who are not yet vaccinated to have their COVID-19 shot in the soonest time possible. To quote the good mayor, he said, “the said inoculation will allow them to go out and attend physical classes as well as restore the development of their social skills and cognitive function, which are undeniably affected by the existence of this pandemic.” The physical classes mentioned by Mayor Treñas here may include, among others, future in-school functions like retreats, recollections, masses, confessions, guidance sessions, HyFlex pilot testing, paper and pencil diagnostic testing, tryouts, meetings, trainings, outreach events, research investigations, graduation rites, and other academic and formation-related initiatives.
The City Mayor further said that being vaccinated, “…will also strengthen the confidence of parents amidst the hesitancy of some to have their kids vaccinated…” This appeal, to note, is also a response to the suggestion of no less than Pope Francis himself who consider getting vaccinated (with the assumption that they are fit to do so) as both a “moral obligation” and an “act of love.”
