Academic Formation Program

The Academic Formation Program of the school is such that its curricular offerings—in concurrence with the school’s Non-Academic Formation Program—are seamlessly woven from Preschool (PS) to Grade 12, consistent with the vision, mission, formation goals, core values, and objectives of the institution. In tandem with the Non-Academic Program of the school, it is designed to prepare students for college and life in an Atenean way. Hence, its way of proceeding follows the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP), a testedand-proven framework for teaching and learning adapted by the international network of Jesuit schools.

The Grade School (GS), Junior High School (JHS), and Senior High School (SHS) units offer a developmental and integrated program of studies that consists of Chinese, CLE (Christian Living Education), English, Filipino,
ICT Information and Communications Technology, MAPEH (Music, Art, Physical Education, and Health), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education).

The school also offers two strands in SHS under the Academic Track, namely: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM). It covers all the core, applied, and specialized subjects required by the Department of Education (DepEd). On top of this, the school likewise offers one additional Filipino subject, four Ignatian Spirituality subjects, and the integration of Christian Life Education (CLE) in the SHS curriculum.

ADI-SMCS offers Chinese (Mandarin) as a required course in Preschool to Grade 10. PS integrates structured play in its curriculum while Grade 10 has CAT (Citizenship Advancement Training). Robotics and coding are also integrated in ICT classes of GS, JHS, and SHS (Grade 11).

Performance tasks and understanding-based evaluation are major levels of assessment in the curriculum. Learning Support Programs (LSPs), research, and standardized tests are also appropriated and incorporated into major subjects and grade levels. Meanwhile, the school gives free daily consultation periods for students every after class upon appointment with their subject teachers.

Grades 2-6 in GS and Grades 7-10 in JHS follow the 6-day cycle and the trimestral system while Grades 11-12 in Senior High School adopt the regular ATENEO DE ILOILO STUDENT HANDBOOK 27 5-day-per-week scheduling and the semestral system. Meanwhile, due to its context, Preschool to Grade 1 follow the regular 5-day-per-week scheduling and the trimestral system. This day-cycle distribution stays in effect until the school decides otherwise.

With the desire to better itself as the only Jesuit, Catholic, and Chinese-Filipino Basic Education Institution in Western Visayas, all the program offerings herewith undergo regular vertical, horizontal, and institutional articulations and evaluations between and among teachers, formators, supervisors, administrators, and external experts.
