Academic Honors and Award

Honor System

To recognize the extraordinary achievement of students who have demonstrated outstanding work beyond that which is required by the school, the Academic  Honors and Awards are hereby given to deserving Ateneans.

Criteria for Academic Honors:

Academic Honors shall be conferred only to qualified students of Grades 4-12. Being in their developmental years and considering their level of maturity, students in Preschool up to Grade 3 shall be rewarded in the non-academic and formative way.

Tables 6 and 7 show the criteria for the trimestral, semestral, yearend, completion, and graduation honors.

In choosing the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian for the batch for SeniorHigh School (Grade 12), the school shall follow a selection process that will consider the choice of the batch; academic, leadership, and personal qualities of the applicant; essay; and interview following a set of criteria. The same shall be used to determine the speaker/s of the batch in Grade School (Grade 6) and Junior High School (Grade 10). Only those who have high honors and highest honors are qualified to be part of the screening process. The selection process shall be facilitated in by the Standards Committee that is composed of

• Principal,
• Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction for GS and JHS or the Associate Principal for Senior High School for SHS,
• Associate Principal for Formation,
• Three (3) Faculty Representatives of the Graduating Batch,
• Four (4) Representatives from the Formation Team,
• One (1) Representative from the Mid-Level Administrators, and
• Chairperson of the Evaluation Committee

Note: The committee may invite resources speakers such as the class advisers, coaches, club moderators, and past/present teachers should it deem necessary.

Excellence in Subject Awards

The Excellence in Subject Award is given to students who showed outstanding performance in the different subject areas. In Grade School, this award is given during graduation ceremony with the following criteria per subject area:

(a) a student of ADI-SMCS from Grade 5 to Grade 6;
(b) has the highest General Average Grade in the subject area from Grade 5 to Grade 6;
(c) has a grade of C+ or better in the subject area in each trimester from Grade 5 to Grade 6; and
(d) has effort and conduct grades of C+ or better in each trimester from Grade 5 to Grade 6.

In Junior High School, this award is given during completion ceremony with the following criteria per subject area:

(1) a student of ADI-SMCS from Grade 7 to Grade 10;
(2) has the highest General Average Grade in the subject area from Grade 7 to Grade 10;
(3) has a grade of C+ or better in the subject area in each trimester from Grade 7 to Grade 10; and
(4) has effort and conduct grades of C+ or better in each trimester from Grade 7 Grade 10.

In Senior High School, this award is given during recognition day each semester with the following criteria per subject:

(1) is one of the top 3 students with the highest Final Grade per subject area; and
(2) has effort and conduct grades of C+ or better in the semester.

Other Awards
ADI-SMCS confers other special awards during the completion and graduation ceremonies in recognition of the excellent performance of students in the different field of leadership, service-oriented activities, and co-curricular activities.The conferment of the awards follows the following steps:


(a) Nomination. Any member of the faculty and staff—including administrators, club moderators, and class advisers—nominates a student who comply with the criteria. Students may also nominate through votation to be facilitated in by the Evaluation Committee formed by the Principal.
(b) Deliberation. The deliberation process, facilitated in by the Evaluation Committee, appraises and validates related information regarding the nominee/s in reference to the criteria. All teachers, class advisers, formators, administrators, club moderators, and coaches form part of the process.
(c) Confirmation. The result of the deliberation process is forwarded to the School President for confirmation.

Magis Award

This award is given to a graduating student in Senior High School who, to an outstanding degree, embodies the core values of Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School: Competence, Conscience, Character, Compassion, Community, Culture, and Christ-centeredness. The Magis Award Search Committee is called upon by the Principal only if there is a nominated candidate with a compelling reason for due evaluation.

Excellence in Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Award
This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) who is one of the top ten (10) students who garners the highest points in the co-curricular activities;
(c) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case; and
(d) with average club, homeroom, effort, and conduct grades of C+ or better in all grade levels.

St. Ignatius of Loyola Leadership Award
This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) who is either nominated by at least 20% of his/her batch or by the deliberation committee;
(c) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case;
(d) who has an average academic grade of C+ or better in all grade levels;
(e) with average club and homeroom grades of B or better in all grade levels;
(f) with average effort and conduct grades of B or better in all grade levels.
(g) who has shown effective and proper motivation, planning, communication, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills;
(h) who has been an efficient and effective president or officer of any club, organization, or homeroom; and
(i) who has actively initiated, participated in, and managed service-oriented activities or programs for the school population and/or community.

St. Francis Xavier Service Award

This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) who is either nominated by at least 10% of his/her batch or by the deliberation committee;
(c) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case;
(d) with average club, homeroom, effort, and conduct grades of C+ or better in all grade levels;
(e) who has actively and voluntarily participated in/initiated school and community service-oriented activities or programs for the school population and/or community; and
(f) who has shown generosity, sense of faith that does justice, genuine interest, dedication, and selfless commitment in service to others, the school, and the community through the use of his or her time, efforts, resources, and talents.

St. Peter Faber Character Award
This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) who is either nominated by at least 10% of his/her batch or by the deliberation committee;
(c) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case;
(d) with conduct grade of B+ or better in all grading periods;
(e) with average club, homeroom, and effort grades of C+ or better in all grade levels;
(f) who demonstrates good moral character and manifests high ethical standards;
(g) who conforms to school rules, regulations, and procedures;
(h) who is courteous at all times, and shows discipline, good manners, and right conduct; and
(i) who has actively participated and has shown dedication in various religious, formation, and/or socio-civic oriented activities of the school.

Excellence in Athletics Award
This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case;
(c) with average club, homeroom, effort, and conduct grades of C+ or better in all grade levels;
(d) who has displayed extraordinary skills set in one or many areas of sports;
(e) who has officially represented the school in the Regional, National, or International Competitions;
(f) who has served as good leader to the team and teammates by exhibiting right attitude such as punctuality, discipline, sincerity, respect, dedication, and positive influence;
(g) who has rendered admirable service in sports-related activities; and
(h) who demonstrates right attitude like sportsmanship, respect towards teammates, school authorities, and other members of the community.

Excellence in Journalism Award
This award is given to a student:

(a) who has been a student, with no failing grade at the end of the school year, in the last two school years in ADI-SMCS;
(b) with no involvement in any established major disciplinary case;
(c) with average club, homeroom, effort, and conduct grades of C+ or better in all grade levels;
(d) who is an active member/contributor of the school paper (Ripples in JHS/SHS and Pebbles in GS) for at least two years in ADI-SMCS;
(e) who has actively and regularly published quality and reputable articles in the school paper, school website, and/or established local/ national/international publications;
(f) who has actively participated in the conceptualization, skills enhancement, management (presswork), publication, and circulation process of the school paper; and
(g) who has participated and performed excellently in at least one regional and two local seminars and contests.

Loyalty Award
This award is given to graduating SHS students who are enrolled in ADISMCS from Grade 1-Grade 12.

Other Special Awards
The school reserves the right to confer other special awards or citations to deserving students if deemed necessary and appropriate.
