ATENEO de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School Alumni Association (AAA) is all set to hold the Ateneo Big Blue Run this Sunday, July 23, 6 a.m., at the Iloilo Megaworld Business Park.
The 5-year-old event offers 3K and 6K running categories. Registration fee of PhP400 (which includes free Ateneo dri-fit shirt) may be processed at the Ateneo Administration building in Atria Park District, San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City every afternoon. Walk-in runners may register at 5 a.m. in the assembly area on July 23.
“It is open to all sports enthusiasts who would want to sprint to win, jog for a cause, tread with friends—or do all and more,” said organizer and alumna Mary Anne Therese Menchavez, adding “this is our way of igniting our Santa Marian-Atenean spirit through a project that will support further the school’s scholarship program.”
The ADI-SMCS Scholarship Program caters scores of scholars who come from select public and private schools in Iloilo. They are chosen based on their socio-economic status and scholastic performance though an exhaustive selection process.
For her part, AAA president Dr. Joy Aviles-Dela Cruz said: “this (Big Blue Run) is one of the most anticipated moments of the year that the whole Ateneo community—the students, alumni, parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and benefactors—of ADI-SMCS meet and celebrate the Ignatian tradition of excellence, love, and service.”
”We hope to gather as many participants, most especially alumni, as possible as we are also preparing the community for another more intimate activity on July 28, 5:30 p.m., where we are to bid goodbye to our Old Campus at General Blanco St., Iloilo City.” (Herman Lagon)
