TEN-MAN Ateneo Street Dance Crew (ASDC) bested eight other select dance groups in the Visayas in the annual Ego Supreme Crew Wars 3 Visayas Grand Finals High School Division held October 8 in SM City Mall in Cebu City.
The crew—trained by PE Teacher Francis Dave Moreno—took with them a trophy and PhP50,000 prize. They were followed by another Ilonggo squad second placer University of San Agustin USADA Prodigals and third placer University of San Jose Recoletos Baby Jaguars. They will be competing for the national finals in Manila in late this year.
The winning Atenean dancers, composed of students from Junior High School and Senior High School, are Joshua Alesandro Bantad, Carlo Miguelle Bosque, Sean Carlo Eslabon, Rafael Ian Genoveza, Lanz Andre Muhalin, Jeff Joshua Paguntalan, Marino Vincent Panes, Alex Jefferson Torio, Luke Mattew Pijuan, and anton Sebastian Sacapaño.
Meanwhile, the 14-girls team of ASDC managed to place 6th from the 12 participants in the Cebuano-dominated category. They are composed of Paulyne Anne Valderrama, Teara Maia Acdol, Jovi-Janet Atienza, Trishia Mae Nicole Daniel, French Meriel Ticao, Pauline Marie Haro, Janna Alysa Marie Navarro, Evaneza Sayson, Kathleen Joy Silva, Erika Paula Taton, Rochelle Temporosa, Ma. Regina Isabel Uygongco, Mary Kathleen Valderrama, and Patricia Danise Seruelo.
Trainer Moreno said: “This is our first time in the competition and we went beyond our expectations. I guess this is magis personified for us,” adding, “We thank all the performers for their passion and dedication. We also salute all those who have helped us: the school administration led by Fr. Joseph Haw, our faculty, students, parents, friends, and also our sister school Ateneo de Cebu under Fr. Manny Uy for adopting us in our stay in Cebu.” (Herman Lagon)
